Risk Distribution Monitor
RDM is a quarterly survey of insurers' risk business through the IFA
channel. The survey is undertaken in both Australia and New Zealand. The
survey helps insurers to understand their relationship with both aligned
and non-aligned dealer groups. The survey examines new sales, discontinuances,
adjustments and inforce business. Results are produced within 6 weeks of
the end of each quarter, and give a detailed breakdown of the performance
of each IFA group. Performance is broken down by product type and geographical
location. Beginning in 2005, duration-based analyses of discontinuance rates
have been introduced to better understand the pattern of industry “churning”.
Dealer groups also subscribe to the RDM programme, and find the survey valuable for two reasons:
- Benchmarking their performance against competitors, and
- A source of detailed, up-to-date data on their performance.
From 2005, a version of RDM focusing on the bank channel was introduced
due to demand from clients who want to understand more fully this important
channel.
